Ic3y Mag's Listening Room presents Brent Faiyaz - Icon (Director’s Cut)

By Foil Gallery

On March 8, the Ic3y Mag Listening Room returns to Foil Gallery with a full-album session dedicated to Brent Faiyaz’s newest record, Icon (Director’s Cut). The album will be played from beginning to end, inside a quiet space designed for focused listening.

Brent Faiyaz makes his intentions clear from the opening moments of Icon. A short orchestral introduction sets a cinematic scale before the record moves through emotionally direct yet musically adventurous R&B. “other side.” highlights the warmth of his voice over lush proto-disco soul, “pure fantasy.” imagines him as an 80s-era pop star, while tracks like “have to.” and “strangers.” stretch into more experimental territory, shifting between processed vocals, introspection, and late-night reflection. It’s a record built on detail, the kind that reveals itself when nothing competes for your attention.

The Listening Room exists for exactly that. No phones, no talking, no skipping. Just sitting with an album the way it was created, allowing the pacing, silence, and transitions to matter again. Because Icon (Director’s Cut) just came out, this session also works as a collective first listen, shared at the same tempo instead of fragmented across playlists and feeds.
